Texas has cannabis-friendly infrastructure in place, but local government slow to legalize
CCC recently visited Texas, 1 of 13 states where cannabis remains entirely illegal. Cannabis legalization wasn't even on Texas' 2022 midterm ballot. Cannabis decriminalization may be discussed by government officials in Texas in 2023.
The funny thing is that we encountered several Delta-8 THC and CBD shops (both federally legal) while in Austin, along with some convenient 24/7 vending machines. There were multiple locations that will be ready to serve recreational/medical cannabis on day one once it's legal in Texas.
Cannabis-related offensives have largely diminished due to police departments not being able to tell the difference between the legal/illegal plants, and testing options not keeping up - according to the Texas Tribune.
Hopefully the cannabis community in Texas continues to grow, and the state manages to at least decriminalize cannabis within the next 24 months. Cannabis didn't have the best night in the 2022 midterms, as only 2 of 5 eligible states voted to legalize. Congratulations to Missouri and Maryland for their recent legalization. Better luck to Arkansas and the Dakotas next time, and to Texas, go ahead and get that legalization tax money.
